Museum of Botany of the University of Latvia

The Herbarium of the University of Latvia contains more than 150 000 specimens of vascular plants and cryptogams (lichens, algae, fungi) from Estonia and Latvia. The oldest collections date back to the middle of the 19th century. The museum boasts Herbarium Balticum and Herbarium Generale, collected by K. R. Kupffer, an outstanding scientist. The collections of the Riga Society of Naturalists contain the oldest herbarium specimens and are included in Herbarium Latvicum, which has a total of about 100 000 herbarium specimens.
